June Yamamoto Memorial Walk 2026 — Event Report

The June Yamamoto Memorial Walk is an annual fundraising event held in memory of the late Junko (June) Yamamoto, a dedicated volunteer and supporter of Japanese Social Services (JSS). The event honours her legacy of kindness and compassion while bringing community members and supporters together to support JSS.
This year, 25 participants joined us on October 18, 2026, walking a combined total of 70 km. Warm autumn weather and vibrant fall colours provided a beautiful setting for the occasion. It was a heartwarming day spent remembering June, enjoying the autumn scenery, and strengthening community ties.
At the post-event luncheon, Mr. Soichiro (Sam) Yamamoto shared a few words, giving everyone an opportunity to reflect on June’s warmth and kindness.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the event raised 6,340 CAD in donations. These funds will support JSS’s work to help members of the Japanese Canadian community feel secure and supported in their daily lives.
We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. Yamamoto and Mr. Yoshitaka Inoue for their generous donations. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the walk, donated, or volunteered for their time.
Together, we will carry forward June Yamamoto’s spirit of kindness and compassion through care for one another. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s memorial walk such a memorable day.
We look forward to your continued support in the years to come.
